We've Been Here A Long Time

This is like a journal entry a soldier in one of these last few wars we've had in this country.
"We've been here so long, we forgot what the mission was. I was a kid when this war started and now I'm a man and I'm here and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight or any clear plan to ever successfully complete this. I used to believe in some noble cause, but now I think 'who cares? just don't die out here."

I don't really ever paint soldiers and warriors in these dramatic, exaggerated and heroic poses that you would see in a movie or something. I like to look at older war photography and think back to my own experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan and think back to my state of mind, and what I was feeling and thinking. What I felt both physically, mentally and emotionally was exhaustion, anger, frustration, and uncertainty to say the very least. And I enjoy imagery that depicts that and I think thats why images like these speak loudly to me. I know how exhausting it is to lug around a weapon that you never fire. I know what it feels like to conduct 30 hr missions with no sleep and no food. I remember feeling so fucking tired and just wanting to go home because "we been here a long time."
